Haitham. Oman continues to lead by example on how to surmount the greatest obstacle in foreign relations، namely how to، in the words of Oman's Minister of Foreign Affairs، Sayyid Badr Albusaidi، overcome "the reluctance of some to put themselves in the shoes of those with whom they disagree، their unwillingness to challenge narratives، and their subsequent failure to reach judicious and pragmatic conclusions regarding the road to peace." Sultan Qaboos himself could not have put it better.

But this constructive، non-violent stance is not just state policy. It goes deeper. Tellingly، no Omanis are known to have joined ISIS in Syria or Iraq as jihadists، or taken part in terrorist acts، showing that the principle of not participating in conflicts or engaging in violent behaviour is not just a government mandate، but part of the Omani cultural fabric.

Ethics، in other words، is Oman's ethos.
