Summary of the PHD. Thesis In English

The thesis is entitled: The national questions in the articles of Cheikh Ibrahim Abi Elyakdan (1926 - 1938). In this thesis، I treated the major problems that created debates in the periods between the two wars in Algeria and whose principal cause was the French colonization policy. It includes some important events in our national history obtained from the reforming press of Abi Elyakdan that the colonizer combated since the apparition of the first newspaper Oued Mizab، till the eighth and last newspaper El Forkan including: Mizab، El Maghreb، Ennour، Elboustan، Ennebrass et Elouma. I treated the person of Ibrahim Abi Elyakdan from all its aspects: his birth، his childhood، his education، his principal writings، his journalistic works، also his vision towards the problems of his era and his different relations with notorious people of his time and finally his death.

I started the first chapter of the thesis، which includes three parts، with the press of Abi Elyakdan between the defense of the Algerian political affairs and the opposition to the French colonial politics، where I treated his newspapers through a descriptive and analytical study in terms of the form، the approach، the demand and the difficulties faced till closure، then his defense for the question of the national movement، the political position of Abi Elyakdan، his appeal to have interest in national affairs، his concept of liberty and the idea about a national unity، the support to the association of the Algerian Muslim scientists، speaking about the first and second Islamic congress held in June 1936 &and 1937، the defense of the Algerian Popular Party and the support of the leaders of the national movement. After that، my thesis treated the position of Abi Elyakdan who was against the French colonial policy in Algeria through the forced conscription، the naturalization and the integration، and the renewal of the application of the native law، then the position of the press of Abi Elyakdan about the succession of the French general governors in Algeria، then the problem of the elections and the question of the parliamentary representation in the various councils، and Abi Elyakdan's vision about all that by citing some anti-colonial political forms mentioned in his newspapers. And as a conclusion، the first chapter is marked by the political aspect that had a big echo in the press of Abi Elyakdan because of the situation witnessed by Algeria in the period between the two wars that created a national reaction. That's why his newspapers contained political articles.

In the second chapter، which is divided into four parts، the thesis treats economic، social، cultural and religious questions in Algeria. From the economical side with its sections: agriculture، industry and commerce، also the
