Management of the Fort

The Ministry of Heritage and Culture has always acknowledged the historical value of the fort and attempted to include this fort on the world heritage List. It was inscribed in the List in 1987. In 1992، the restoration works started. In addition، a plan to administer the project was approved. The plan stressed the restoration of this monument to its original form without harming its cultural features. It also stressed that the restoration should depend only on local material and meth- ods، which were used when the Fort was originally built. The Ministry sought technical assistance of an expert UNESCO team. When the restoration works are completed. The Ministry plans to invest in this Fort culturally and as a tourist area. The Ministry also plans to restore other historical buildings related to the Fort such as the Great Mosque، the Old Souq and the historic Bahla Wall.
