The fort comprises a walled triangular building sur-

rounded by a mountainous out crop which formed a natural barrier that keeps attackers from launching direct attack on it. The entrance leading to the external courtyard of the fort is found in the southern wall which is 112 m long. The eastern wall is 114 m long while the northwestern wall is 135 m long stretching from the northern tower to Burj Al-reeh (the tower of the Wind).

This fort is one of the oldest forts. Its eye-catching appearance with its high walls and towers make it the most beautiful building in Oman

The fort is surrounded by 12 km long historical wall، which was con- structed to defend the town of Bahla. The wall has seven gates and a number of watchtowers with guardrooms. In the nighborhood of the fort stands one of the most famous ancient Omani mosques and also the old Suq، which is a historical public market where traditional arti- fact and agricultural products are sold. In addition، there are also many traditional industrial workshops and ancient irrigation systems.
