رسالة د. كهلان الخروصي
الجزء ١ · صفحة ٤٥… >th~r al-Rab‚` b. ™ab‚b also provides us with a general picture of the difficulties and hardships that Ib~‡‚s had to suffer. One of them was bai`at ibn Ziy~d (forcing the public by sword to give allegiance to `Ubayd All~h b. Ziy~d). Ib~‡‚s found it Islamically unacceptable. Yet expressing this view would ultimately obliterate their movement; and therefore the only solution، though not an easy solution، was to hide for a time until their concern was sorted (tradition [303]). Another example is tradition [286] where it is ascribed to Ka`b b. Siw~r that he enjoined Muslims to fear God as there was going to be war and bloodshed and that he asked them to isolate themselves (amarahum bi-l-|i`tiz~l) from these problems.
… In addition، there are some traces in >th~r al-Rab‚` of the caution required in dealing with the regime that led to compromises about which people were uneasy. A good paradigm of this is tradition [293]. It shows J~bir b. Zayd very close to one of al-™ajj~j's secretaries، Yaz‚d b. Ab‚ Muslim who was، more or less، sympathetic to the Ib~‡‚ movement and its leaders. Yet J~bir having his own preservations about Yaz‚d، as could be seen in his statement، was compelled not to damage this relationship، at the presence of Yaz‚d at least.
