On the other hand it has not been referred to as >th~r al-Rab‚`، with (3) the only exception of al-Shamm~kh‚، simply to distinguish it from his other work Musnad al-Rab‚`. And because the confusion of intermixing the two works of al-Rab‚` has been removed after the representation of the Musnad by Abƒ Ya`qƒb al-Warjl~n‚ (d.570/1174)،⁽¹⁾ after which it has been renamed al-J~mi` al-‰aˆ‚ˆ، I think it is reasonable to stick to the name of >th~r al-Rab‚` b. ™ab‚b even if all the previous names are examined and used throughout my investigation of who referred to the book as all these names were of the same book، apparently except J~mi` Ab‚ ^ufra.

A. The Egyptian Copy

I was first introduced to the work coincidentally when I was searching for another Ib~‡‚ work called Mudawwanat Ab‚ Gh~nim al-Khur~s~n‚ preserved under the number B/21582 in the D~r al-Kutub al-Mi‰riyya. I later discovered that it is a mixed-content manuscript، that includes in parts of it the work of >th~r al-Rab‚`b. ™ab‚b.
